Scientific skepticism or rational skepticism (also spelled scepticism), sometimes referred to as skeptical inquiry, is a practical, epistemological position in which one questions the veracity of claims lacking empirical evidence. In practice, the term is most commonly applied to the examination of claims and theories which appear to be beyond mainstream science, rather than to the routine discussions and challenges among scientists. Scientific skepticism is different from philosophical skepticism, which questions our ability to claim any knowledge about the nature of the world and how we perceive it. Scientific skepticism uses critical thinking and inductive reasoning while attempting to oppose claims made which lack suitable evidential basis. The New Skepticism described by Paul Kurtz is scientific skepticism and scientific skepticism is a core part of the Brights Movement beliefs. From Wikipedia under the

Q. This question is for everyone who might have been somehow blocked from replying to it the first time it was asked. I think maybe we should make a habit of this, just so people don't get confused when no skeptics actually reply to the question. As far as I can see, the answer is that committees don't publish papers - people do. And among the current and past fellows of CSI are Richard Wiseman (psychologist), Richard Dawkins (evolutionary biologist), Murray Gell-Mann (physicist and Nobel Prize winner), David Morrison (NASA physicist), John Allen Paulos (mathematician), Steven Pinker (cognitive scientist), Neil deGrasse Tyson (astronomer), Steven Wineburg (physicist), Francis Crick (biologist), Stephen J. It is of no substance and its intent isn't to obtain answers or information since any provided would be disregarded, but to irritate. It is ironic to point a question at people you have blocked from viewing or answering that question. I wonder who will get the best answer. Answered by Peter D - Thu May 29 22:51:57 2008 Quackwatch a 'Pseudo-skeptical' website? Q. Do you think that Quackwatch fits this description? "The term pseudoskepticism (or pseudoscepticism) denotes thinking that appears to be skeptical but is not. The term is most commonly encountered in the form popularised by Marcello Truzzi, where he defined pseudoskeptics as those who take "the negative rather than an agnostic position but still call themselves 'skeptics'". University of Washington electrical research engineer William J. Beaty describes pseudo-skepticism as; "a variety of pseudoscience: the behavior of highly biased 'sneering scoffers' who try to legitimize their prejudice by donning the mantle of science and proper skepticism. Answered by RadioCloud - Tue Aug 11 04:57:08 2009 Atheists, What would you deem evidence of god?
Q. As an atheist, I have a very broad definition of anything that would prove the existance of god. Absolutely any supernatural activity, (Excluding UFO's as aliens have nothing to do with god). The following prizes are up for grabs whom can prove anything supernatural. The Australian Skeptics offer $100,000 (Australian), $80,000 for the psychic and $20,000 for anyone "who nominates a person who successfully completes the Australian Skeptics Challenge." If you nominate yourself, and are successful, you get the whole hundred grand. The Association for Skeptical Inquiry (ASKE), a U.K. skeptic organization, offers 12,000 for proof of psychic powers.
