how can I start a paranormal investigation?
Q. I live in arkansas and I was wondering how to start investigating the paranormal? Where do you start and what do you need to start? Please can someone help me?

A. You should start with a friend that shares your interests. It takes a very long time to learn how to pick up and hear EVP. I would start with an inexpensive digital recorder and just try recording at first. Spend time learning how to load the files to your computer and listen to them. Buy an inexpensive emf meter and practice with that. You should also read all that you can find about the subject. The more you learn the better prepared you will be to become an investigator. As with anything it takes time and patience to learn. Investigating can be very boring work, long hours and no pay. It is something that you must be passionate about.

What types of questions do paranormal investigators ask when first meeting a client?
Q. I am writing a book in which the main character schedules a meeting with a paranormal investigator. I want to make the interaction as real as possible. Any advice would be appreciated.

How much money do you spend on paranormal products and services?
Q. How much do you spend on New Age or paranormal stuff? Things like tarot, psychic or aura readings, smudging sage, remote healing or anything else of that nature?
Asked by Tukmyhamster - Tue Nov 18 20:45:56 2008 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments
A. As a researcher I have several hundred dollars worth of equipment and probably $150.00 or more in books. I have 5 tarot decks around$15.00 to $20.00 each and about 5 or so tarot books. I probably have spent at least $1000.00 or more on paranormal and New Age books and equipment over the years. That is about $100.00 a year. That may sound like a lot but I know people who spend way more that that each year on cigarettes, beer and other things that is not actually healthy. It is also a small amount compared to my Other hobby fishing.

A. As a paranormal researcher and investigator I can tell you that those shows only show you drama. the real world is not so pretty you may go months with out finding anything. To do a good research you don't get payed you do it for the love of finding something no one else has discovered about the paranormal. Don't forget about the documentation and evidence you gather plus the paper work that's involved. Unless you truly love mysteries and history stay at home and watch the shows. How do I get started as a paranormal investigator?
Q. I've always been interested in the paranormal. I read anything I can about it. All of the questions and possible answers interest me to no end and I just want to keep learning and someday find those answers. I really want to find a group of serious investigators in the Michigan area that are willing to have a 14 year old girl observe and maybe even help out on research and investigations. Does anyone know any possible way I could actually get started doing that?
Asked by mariaxxanne - Fri May 23 21:28:14 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There are no professionals in this field, so don't be afraid to get active. Let your curiosity lead you. Ask a lot of questions. Experiment. Take some practical science classes. Assume nothing. Reach conclusions based not on what you've heard or is supposedly true, but your own practical, hands-on experience. As time goes on and you accumulate more experience you will learn more and more about how to become a good investigator.

What training would it take to be a true paranormal investigator?
Q. If parapsychology is a serious field, I assume that there are some well known universities out there and some well known professors, that you can get training from. I know I have seen little diploma mill ads in the back of magazines, advertising their correspondence courses, but I am talking about real scientific training, and real scientists. I assume you would need training in psychology, physics, scientific methods, technology and many other areas. And not be biased in doing your investigating, as it seems many are. A. There are no accredited universities in the US offering degrees in parapsychology. There are very few pracitcing parapsychologists in this country simply because, in all the years it has been studied, not once has there ever been a substantiable case of paranormal powers or activities. But if you want to study it, look up Joe Nickell (probably the only real paranormal investigator out there who actually uses real science) and CSICOP.

A. I have studied paranormal activity for the past 25 years and not stopping any time soon! I have been trying to link up electricity with paranormal activity.I research mostly in the desert. I have found out that paranormal activity does use your batteries to power up and try to manifest. I also have noticed an increase of paranormal activity when the winds are higher and there is current in the air. Also due to the fact that they drain battery power it lets me to believe that they can do more when electricity is present. I do not believe it is portals or anything . just that the energy required for an entity to manifest is already there and available .

It will give you lots of insight and knowledge so that when you do start your own group you won't be fumbling and making lots of mistakes. You do not need any type of a permit, but its very very important to be open and honest with the people who invite you to their space. They need to understand in advance what exactly you are planning to do, when, where, why, how you reach your conclusions etc. Also, with no experience I would strongly suggest you not pass too much judgement on what you find or don't find in a space. Just report what was witnessed, and keep the… [cont.]

Many historical buildings do not allow pictures taken inside the building. The Alamo is like that. It is a shrine so they do not want pictures taken inside the building. Investigations do not have to be obvious with people running around with EMF meters and such. I have investigated many places without anyone knowing what I was doing. What would you say is the greatest debate about the paranormal?
Q. You know the typical does paranormal events happen? Do ghosts exist and what about the different abilities? Is it the orb debate? Is it about Ouija boards being a toy or demonic? What do you think?
Asked by Hi - Wed Feb 10 05:02:19 2010 - - 14 Answers - 1 Comments
A. The orb debate is the most overblown. Paranormal investigators with knowledge and experience know they are simple photographic effects. Ouija boards are by far the silliest. Why after thousands of years of sightings and abilities, is there still no verifiable evidence? For the first couple of thousand there were good excuses. Now with recording devices, and millions of claims, it seems something would turn up. The greatest debate is "It Doesn't Work Like That, Why". That one question, opens up all the others.

How do you get into the field of being a paranormal researcher?
Q. I'd like to get involved into it to help people. I already go around helping my friends and family if anything paranormal happens, but I'd like to broaden that.

A. Paranormal investigation and research isn't really a professional field. It's like metal detecting or Civil War reenactor--it's a hobby. Some are better than others, but there really isn't much science to it. Just get out there and get some experience.

A. Watch a few episodes of Ghost Hunters, there are some on you tube. They use EMF detectors (Electromagnetic Field Detectors) Which measure of course electromagnet fields, which can spike far above normal with some paranormal activity. Infrared cameras to measure heat and cold, as well as temperature monitors. Unexplained cold and warm areas often occur. The idea is that the entity needs to absorb energy (heat) from its surroundings to manifest itself. They also use tape recorders to pick up voices that may not be heard with your ears. Regular camera's and video camera's to catch anything else. Video camera's use night vision technology to see in the dark.
